That seems to be one of the most challenging questions for me right now! Things are still kinda a big blur. I can't believe that the twins will be two weeks old on Wednesday. Our babies are growing and doing really well. We are so thankful that they arrived safe and sound and have been so healthy. They had a Doctor's apt on Friday that showed Orrin weighing 6 lbs 10 ounces and Elena weighing 6 lbs 8 ounces. So they have both passed their birth weights which is great. I don't think it will be long before Elena passes her brother up...she's a little piggy!
I was so glad that I didn't end up having a C-section. My Dr had said that we could check one last time before we did the surgery to see Baby B's position. I told the nurses that when we were getting all prepped and they brought in their ultrasound machine. I was actually scanning myself when my Dr. walked in and asked me what I saw. I was too afraid to believe what I thought I was seeing so he started scanning. He was QUITE surprised to discover that Baby B had flipped yet again and both babies were head down. He gave me the option to just go ahead with the C-section (C-section was scheduled at 12:30 and it was about 12:15 then) or to start the induction process and deliver regularly. I told him I wanted to do what was best and safest for the babies, but that if avoiding a C-section was possible that was what I wanted. So we started the induction process.
I was lucky enough to have one of our friends, Harvey H as the anesthesiologist involved. He put the epidural in mid afternoon, but didn't dose it until later. My Dr. had said I had to have the epidural in case he had to do a breech extraction or we had to go to a C-section quickly. My Dr broke Baby A's water about 3:00 pm. Things progressed pretty quickly towards the end. I remember talking to my sister around 6 or 7 and telling her I was kinda bored. (That changed rather fast!) We moved to the operating room at 8:48 pm and Elena was born at 8:59 pm. Orrin was born 15 minutes later at 9:14 pm. Perfect, beautiful little babies!
The twins got to meet their big brother the next morning. His first comment to me was, "The babies came out, Mama!" He loves to hold his little brother and sister and often tells me that they are "very cute." He always asks if a baby can come in his bed when we read a story at night.
We came home on Friday the 16th and have been doing well with lots and lots of help from family and friends. Will threw his back out on Monday and was barely able to walk, let alone lift a baby so that has been interesting! My mom stayed over on Monday and Tuesday night and then my cousin Nyla came down and stayed from Wednesday through Saturday. My sister is here now for the week and Will is doing much better. There have been times when I just had to laugh...(or cry!)...Will on the couch in the game room because he could barely move, Trevin telling me he has to go potty (he chose the week before the twins were born to decide he wanted to be potty trained), and me feeding one baby with the other crying nearby!! I'm SO glad that Will is doing better and so grateful for all the help we have received. A big thank you to those that have come over and cuddled babies so I can nap, cleaned house, done laundry, brought meals, run errands, taken Trevin and a million other things. We are SO lucky to have the friends and family we have!
I posted a ton of pics from the last week and a half. Sorry it took me so long! I can't promise that I will do very well updating this blog...but I will try!
